Guan Zilan 关紫兰 also known as Violet Kwan, was born in January, in Shanghai,

China.

Her family oftextile manufacturers, is from Nanhai, Guangdong Province.

She studied painting at the Shenzhou Girls School, then at Shanghai Art University.
|
|
She was a student of Chen Baoyi.
|
|
|
|
She was one of the first artists to introduce Fauvism into China.
|

After graduating, she moved to Japan to deepen her studies at Bunka Gakuin
|
|
in Tokyo.
|
|
Her works participated in various exhibitions.
|
|
|
1930
|
She returned to China, and held an exhibition in Shanghai.
|
|
|
1938
|
She got married and had two children.
|
|
|
1958
|
She worked at the Shanghai Research Institute of Culture and History and became
|
|
a member of the Association of Chinese Artists.
|
|
|
|
She stopped painting after the Cultural Revolution.
|
|
|
1986
|
She died on June 30 at the age of 83, in Shanghai.
