Guan Zilan 关紫兰 also known as Violet Kwan, was born in January, in Shanghai, |

China. |

Her family oftextile manufacturers, is from Nanhai, Guangdong Province. |
|
|
She studied painting at the Shenzhou Girls School, then at Shanghai Art University. |
|
|
She was a student of Chen Baoyi. |
|
|
|
She was one of the first artists to introduce Fauvism into China. |
|
1927 |
After graduating, she moved to Japan to deepen her studies at Bunka Gakuin |
|
in Tokyo. |
|
|
Her works participated in various exhibitions. |
|
|
1930 |
She returned to China, and held an exhibition in Shanghai. |
|
1938 |
She got married and had two children. |
|
1958 |
She worked at the Shanghai Research Institute of Culture and History and became |
|
a member of the Association of Chinese Artists. |
|
|
She stopped painting after the Cultural Revolution. |
|
|
1986 |
She died on June 30 at the age of 83, in Shanghai. |
