Chen Baoyi 陈抱一 ( 1893-1945 ) famous oil painting theorist and educator, was born

in Shanghai China. His family was native of Xinhui, Guangdong Province in China.

He stayed in Europe, with his parents. |

He studied for one year in Japan. |

|
1916

He returned to Japan to continue his studies at the Kawabata Art Institute and the School

Fine Arts in Tokyo. He was the student of Fujishima Takeji (1867-1943 )

After graduating, he returned to China and opened a studio in Shanghai.

|
He organized the painting exhibition of the Painting Society with Guan Liang, Xu Dunyu

and Hu Gentian. |

He created the Oriental Painting Society and the Silent Society.

He founded with Cai Yuanpei, the Chinese University of Arts; with Ding Yanyong, he was

at the head of Western Painting department

He passed away in Shanghai at the age of 52 years.
