Chen Wen-Hsi 陈文希 was born on September 9, in Baigong, Guangdong Province China.
|
|
|
|
He entered Chen Li Primary School very early, and St. Joseph Middle School.
|
|
|
1928
|
At the end of Secondary school, he decided to devote himself to Art.
|
|
He joined for one year the Shanghai College of Art, then the Xinhua College of Art
|
|
under Pan Tianshou.
|
|
|
1929
|
First exhibition in Snatow then Shanghai (1931 - 1933), Guangzhou (1932 - 1936).
|
|
|
1937
|
He received praise of Xu Beihong at the 2nd National Art Exhibition, Nanjing.
|
|
In the same year, he was elected as one of the ten greatest Chinese Contemporary Artists
|
|
by an English Art magazine.
|
|
|
1948
|
He moved to Singapore and began teaching painting at the Chinese Secondary School
|
|
and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nanyang.
|
|
|
|
He was one of the four artists and educators, pioneers of Singapore, with his friends :
|
|
Chen Chong Swee, Liu Kang, Cheong Soo Pieng .
|
|
|
|
During the holidays, he travelled to South East Asia in search of inspiration.
|
|
|
|
He participated in exhibitions of the group of the Society of Art of Singapore..
