Wang Yu was born in Xuzhou, a town in the North-East of Jiangsu province, in China , |
|
|
on the 9th June.
|
|
|
Her father : Sun Ke Chen is headmaster of a primary school.
|
|
|
Her mother : Wang Zhong Ying is a primary school teacher.
|
|
|
When she was small, if she was not playing with her two older sisters, Yu spent her free-time
|
|
|
drawing.
|

She went to primary school then she went to secondary school.
|
|
|
|
|
1989
|
Her ambition was to become an artist or an architect.
|
|
|
|
|
1991
|
She made her choice. She went to the Institut of Fine Arts of Nanjing for four years, studying
|
|
|
in the Western Art Department as she was particularly interested in Western Art.
|
|
|
She realized that Art is more than anything about research.
|
|
|
After the Chinese artists Zhang Daqian 张大千
1899-1983, Cai Guo-Qiang 蔡国强 1957-, she was
|
|
|
inspired not only by the Impressionnists, but also by Léonardo de Vinci 1452-1519,
|
|
|
Michel-Angelo 1475-1564, Henri Matisse 1869-1954, and Pablo Picasso 1881-1973.
|
|
|
|
|
1994
|
She took part in the 12th exhibition of Chinese engraving, in the Fine Arts Museum of Shenzhen.
|
|
|
|
|
1995
|
She got her degree in Nanjing and her work was shown in the gallery of the Fine Arts Institute.
|
|
|
|
|
1996
|
She continued studying Art.
|
|
|
To everyone's surprise, Yu decided to change her surname and take her mother's surname :
|
|
|
Wang.
|
|
|
|
|
1998
|
Her works was shown in Nanjing, at the Jiangsu Museum, for the first Fine Arts Festival
|
|
|
of Jiangsu.
|
|
|
|
|
1999
|
She got a master's degree in Fine Arts at the Nanjing Institute of Art, specilised in engraving.
|
|
|
She then taught at the Institute of Fine Arts of Shanghai.
|
|
|
|
|
2001
|
Wang Yu always knew that she could not live in China : her inspiration was elsewhere.
|
|
|
She was drawn towards France.
|
|
|
She left her job and went to Paris, without beeing able to speak the language.
|
|
|
She learnt French at the Paris 3 University, went to museums and continued her artistic journey.
