Biographie

LiFang 李芳 was born in Jiangsu in the year of the Monkey, in Pizhou, in the Chinese

Province of Jiangsu, into a family of teachers.

Her father taught Chinese, and was a great lover of literature.

1983

After secondary school, Li Fang went to Teacher Training College in Pizhou.

Here she came into contact with many artists and discovered painting. She became

passionate about art, drawing and painting every day.

1986

She was appointed teacher of drawing. She wanted to learn more, so she took

the entrance exam for the Fine Arts Institute in Nanjing.

1988

Having passed the entrance exam, she began a four-year course at the Fine Arts Institute.

She studied calligraphy, ink and oils. Photography and sculpture were not however

on the programme. Li Fang was keen to learn more.

1991

She took part in an exhibition of small paintings, organised by the Fine Arts Museum

in Nanjing.

1992

After graduation, she returned to her home town to teach. After that, she taught for three

years, in Xuzhou.

She passed the entrance exam for post-graduate studies in Nanjing, and for three years

she specialised in oil painting.

Césanne (1839-1906 ) Gauguin ( 1848-1903 ), Van Gogh ( 1853-1890 ) were her models,

however she also learned a great deal from her professor Shen Xinggong 沈行工 ( 1943- ),

1999

Her first exhibition was held at the Arts School in Naning and she took part in the first Art

Festival in Jiangsu.

2001

For her, France, symbolised art and painting. She spent six months learning French

at the Alliance Française in Shanghai, then resigned from her job.

She followed her dream and went to Paris, where she joined a friend from China.

2002

She enrolled at the Université Paris 1- Panthéon Sorbonne in order to study for a more

specialised Art diploma.

2003

Having obtained a D.E.A., her career as an artist began.

She lives and works in Paris France.

		Bedazzlement.
		And this un painted.
		Blank canvas, empty. Bathed in sunlight.
		And this black which obscures the pupil, the faces.
		Great expanses of colour. Pure. Faded.
		It's like a breeze carrying colours..
		Burning, eroding, bringing life to the body.
		And the eye. And the mind. Elsewhere..
