Zhang Peili 张培力 was born in November in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province China.

His father taught at Medical University in Hangzhou.
|

His mother was midwife in the Hospital. |

He graduated from the Zhejiang Fine Art Academy, Hangzhou. |
| |
He was one of the founder members of the group of artists called* Pond Society,
|
| |
with which he organized events, such as those sketches painted
|
| |
on the outside walls of the Academy. |
| |
|
|
1985
|
He was involved in that Art movement called The New Wave which intend
|
| |
to catch international attention to the Chinese Contemporary Art.
|
| |

1988
|
He abandonned oil painting for video art.
|
| |
He created the first video in China : 30 X 30 or 180 mn during which,

| |
wearing latex gloves, he is shattering a mirror then gathering the fragments
|
| |
and sticking them together with glue.

He created the New Media department of the Chinese Academy of Arts.

|
He lives and works in Hangzhou. |
