1966

Song Dong  宋冬 was born in Beijing  China.

1985

He entered for four years of studies at the Normal University of Beijing.

1989

He graduated from Beijing Normal University.

1992

He married the artist Yin Xiuzhen.

He turned to performance, installation, sculpture and video to develop in his work

ideas of memory and impermanence.

1997

His video Touching my Father addresses his distant relationship with his father.

2000

He wons the Grand Award at the Gwanju Biennial, in South Korea.

2001

He works with his wife for the first time on a project, a metaphor of the family  :

The Way of Chopsticks. Each artist creates half of the work - a single chopstick  -

according to previously chosen parameters, but each on its own, until, the two

sculptures are joined.

2013

They transformed the Rittenhouse Square mansion into a three-storey multimedia

installation inviting the viewer to see the differences and similarities between

American and Chinese family life.

Their daughter Song ErRhui was also collaborating on this project.

He lives and works in Beijing  China.
