1972

Yan Ni, better known by her pen name Shan Sa, was born on October 26,
  in Beijing, China.
   

1979

Very young, she studied calligraphy and traditional painting.
   

1980

Publication of her first poems.
   

1986

She is member of the Association of writers in Beijing.
   

1990/1994

A grant from the French government allowed her to study in Paris.

  Passionate about art, she joined the School of Louvre, while continuing
  her studies in philosophy.
   

1994/1996

Assistant of the painterBalthus, in his home Grand chalet la Rossinière,

 

in Switzerland, she wrote during her stay, Gate of Celestrial Peace

2000

which was awarded Goncourt Prize for Best First Novel.

   

1999

The Four Lives of the Willow won the Prix Cazes

   

2001

Her third novel, The Girl who played Go won the Prix Goncourt des lycéens.

  First exhibition of paintings, galerie Adler Navarra in Paris.
   

2009

She was nominated Knight of Order of Arts and Letters.

 

 

2011

She was nominated Knight of National Order of Merit,  by the President of the Republic.
   
   
  numerous exhibitions in worldwide, mainly New York, Paris, Shanghai and in Tokyo.
