楚戈  pinyin  Chu Ge  nom 袁德星 Yuan Dexing

1931

Yuan Dexing  楚戈 was born in Miluo, Hunan province, in China.

 

At a very young age, he studied poetry and calligraphy.

 

 

1948

He enrolled in the army.

 

 

1949

He settled in Taipei.

 

 

1957

He joined the Modern Poetry movement and used the pen name of Chu Ko.

 

 

1958

He started abstract painting..

   

1968

He served as an expert in National Palace Museum. ( Antiquities Department )

   

1970-1974

First exhibitions in Taiwan, Korea, United States, Japan.

   

1984

His nasopharyngeal cancer in remission, he devoted his life to painting.

   

 

He selected as one of the two artists to represent the Republic of China
  at the Olympic -  World Game Art exhibition :

1988

in Seoul.

1992

In Barcelona.

   

2011

He died in Taipei hospital, in March, at the age of 79.

   

2014

A touring exhibition of the works of Chu Ko, across the country : Legend of Firebird

 

was organized by the Soka Association of Taiwan.
