1965

Yan Lei   颜磊 was born in Langfang, Hebei province  China.

1982

He graduated from the the School of Arts and Crafts of Hebai.

1991

Graduated from the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, he moved to Hong Kong

where he remained seven years.

1997

As China had only one representative in Documenta X in Kassel, Yan Lei and Hong Hao

raised the problem by sending many artists, curators and critics, a false letter in German,

inviting them to partcipate at a special Chinese Art exhibition in Kassel.

This Invitation was perceived as scandal.

2000

He started painting starting from a digital camera reworked on computer and printed

on canvas.

He participated in numerous exhibitions.

2002

He won the award for best artist C.C.A.A. ( Chinese Contemporary Art Awards )

2003

He opened a workshop in the central district of Xi Cheng, Beijing..

He lives and works in Beijing  China.
