|
Zhang Chongren 张充仁 was born in a poor family, in Xujiahui 徐家汇 at the time,
|

a suburb in Shanghai, China.
|
| |
|
|
1914
|
When his mother died, he placed in an orphanage in Tushanwan,
|
| |
managed by French jesuits, where his uncle taught the sculpture..
|
| |
He studied drawing, sculpture and french courses.
|
| |
|
|
1928
|
He worked as a decorator for films studios in Shanghai, |
| |
then as a graphic and designer for newpapers. |
| |
|
|
1931
|
He moved to Belgium and enrolled at the Fine Arts Académy in Brussels |
| |
( sculpture department ) for three years of study. |
| |
|
| |
|
| |
The sinograms at that time, were translated with EFEO system,
|
| |
and his name was Tchang Tchong-Jen.
|
| |
|
|
1934
|
He met Georges Prosper Rémi Belgian author of comic strips Hergé
|
| |
known under the name.
|
| |
He gave him specific informations about China, a country where Tintin
|
| |
wanted to go in Blue Lotus.
|
| |
Tchang Tchong Chen is a character in the work of Hergé, the sole friend
|
| |
le seul ami de Tintin.
|
| |
We can see his name in traditional sinograms, in Tintin in Tibet. |

1935
|
After graduation and the Golden Award from the Belian governement, |
| |
he travelled in France, United Kingdom, Holland, Germany and Austria.. |
| |
|
|
1936
|
He came back to Shanghai and organized exhibitions.
|
| |
He founded his own studio to accommodate students and sculpt busts
|
| |
of many personalities
|
|
|
|
|
1978
|
During the Cultural Revolution, a part of his works was destroyed and he became
|
| |
sweeper. After he was appointed as Deputy Secretary General of the Chinese
|
| |
Artists' Association in Shanghai, and director of the painting and Sculpture studio
|
| |
in Shanghai.
|
| |
|
|
1979
|
He was finally recognized in China. He published his paintings and sculptures
|
| |
|
|
1981
|
Hergé and Chang met again in France. |
| |
|
|
1985
|
Invited by the French government to come to France, he set up his studio
|
| |
in Nogent-sur-Marne.
|
| |
The same year, he obtained the French nationality.
|
| |
|
|
1988
|
He sculpted the bust of President François Mitterrand.
|
| |
and he sculpted the bust of Hergé at the Angoulême Festival.
|
| |
|
|
1994
|
He sculpted the bust of Deng Xiao Ping.
|
| |
|
|
1998
|
He died on October 8th and he buried at the cemetery in Nogent-sur-Marne.

|
| |
In Qibao, a museum was created in his old studio. |
| |
|
|
2012
|
A retrospective exhibition for the 105th anniversary of the birth
|
| |
of Zhang Chongren was organized by the Fine Arts Museum of Shanghai
|
| |
from 29.09 to 04.10.
