Gao Xingjian 高行健was born on January 4th in Gangzhou, Jangxi province, East of China.

His father is a banker, his mother an actress. Both push him to find interest in acting and

in Iliterature.

He attended high school in Nanjing, and he joined the Foreign Language Institute
|
|
in Beijing.
|
|
|
|
After graduating in French, from the Foreign Language Institute of Beijing,
|
|
|
1966
|
He was sent five years in boot camp in the countryside.

1979
|
He travelled in France and Italy.
|
|
After visiting many museums in Europe, he decided to give up painting with oil
|
|
in profit of ink. He wanted to devote himself to black monochrome.

He began publishing news and stories.
|

1982 / 1985
|
His plays are the subject of many controversies.
|

1987
|
Invited by the Ministry of Culture, he came to Paris to complete his novel: Soul

mountain..

The release of his play: Fugitives caused a total ban of all his works in China.
