1957

Cai Guo-Qiang  蔡国强 was born on December 8th in Quanzhou, Fujian province.

1981

He entered the Shanghai Theater Academy to study scenography for four years.

1987

He moved to Japan where he remained eight years.

The use of gunpowder to cause explosions on his canvases, led him to use

explosives as an artistic method, which will make its international renown.

1995

He moved to New York, while maintaining relations with China and Japan.

2008

He was appointed director of special effects for the opening and closing

2008/2009

A major itinerant retrospective of his work :  I want to believe  opened

in february at the Museum Solomon R. Guggenheim in New York  United States.

It continued in August at the National Art Museum in Beijing  China and at

the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, in march of the following year.

2012

He was the first Chinese to receive in the 24 th Praemium Imperiale of Tokyo,

the most prestigious award in the field of Arts.

He lives in Tokyo Japan and New York  United States.
