Wei Xiao Dong  魏晓冬 was born in Heilongjiang Province  China.

At five years old, she learned to play the erhu (a two-stringed violin) with her father.

 

At eleven, she entered the Beijing Conservatory of Music.

 

She studied piano with Gu Jia Lin, guqin with Master Xiang Ting - and then guzheng .

 

and pipa.

 

At twenty-one, she graduated and became a Master of the Erhu.

2005

After four years of touring with the Chinese film orchestra, she decided to move

 

to the United States and settle in Detroit.

 

She performed as a soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestraoit but also with

 

musicians of various styles.

She formed Wei, an alternative chamber music trio consisting  a bluegrass guitarist,

 

-  a mandolin player -  and herself on the erhu.
