Lan Shui 水蓝 conductor, was born in a wealthy family in Hangzhou,

He learned to play the violin at the age of five.

At thirteen, he joined the People's Army's Song and Dance Troupe in Beijing.

1975

At eighteen, no longer able to play the violin due to an injury, he studied

composition at the Shanghai Conservatory. Disappointed with the subject,
|
| |
he returned to Beijing.
|

1980
|
Impressed by Herbert von Karajan during the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra's
|
| |
performance in Beijing, he decided to enroll at the Central Conservatory
|
| |
of Music in Beijing to become a conductor.
|

1986
|
He made his conducting debut with the Beijing Central Philharmonic Orchestra.
