1949

Zhu Xiao-Mei  朱晓玫 was born in Shanghai  China.

   
 

Initiated very young, to music and piano, by her mother,

 

she performed on radio and television at the age of eight.

   

1959

She entered the Beijing Conservatory, but the Cultural Revolution  

 

interrupted her studies.

   
 

After five years in a labor camp in Zhangjiakou,  a city on the border

 

of Inner-Mongolia, where she managed to work the piano a little,

 

she joined the Beijing Conservatory.

   

1979

Taking advantage of an opening in the Chinese regime, she left for

 

the United States and joined the New England Conservatory in Boston.

   

1985

She obtained a Master's degree in piano performance.

 

The same year, she moved to France and taught at the Conservatoire  

 

National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.

   

1994

First recital, in the capital.

   
 

She began to give concerts of her favorite composers:

 

Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, Mozart, Scarlatti, Schubert, Schumann. and thus

 

made herself known to the whole world.

Her autobiographical novel about her years of rehabilitation won :

 

the Grand Prix des Muses
