Weigang Li  李伟纲 was born into a family of  professional musicians

 

in Shanghai  China.

 

 

 

From the age of five, he learned to play the violin with his parents

 

and his brother  Honggang Li.

   

1977

He entered the Shanghai Conservatory.

   

1981

As part of an exchange program, he went to study at the San Francisco

 

Conservatory in the United States.

   

1983

With his brother Honggang Li and two classmates, he co-founded

 

the Shanghai Quartet of which he was the first violinist.

   

1985

A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory, he was an assistant professor

 

of violin.

 

He left China and joined Northern Illinois University, then the Juilliard School

 

in New York, first as a student and then as a professor.

   
 

He is professor at the Bard College Conservatory of Music, Annandale-on-Hudson,

 

New York., .

Angelo Xiang Yu replaced Yi Wen Jiang as second violinist

Sihao He cellist joined the quartet

   

2024

The Shanghai Quartet was formed by Weigang Li  李伟纲 ¨ First violin,

 

 - his brother Honggang Li, Violist  

 

 - two classmates: Angelo Xiang Yu, Second violin, and Sihao He, Cello.

   
 

  -  The Shanghai quartet toured extensively in North America, Europe, and Asia.sie.

 

( (more than 3,000 concerts in around thirty countries - in the most prestigious venues

 

- at numerous festivals...).. )

 

  -  The quartet collaborated with many artists selection
