Weigang Li 李伟纲 was born into a family of professional musicians
|
|
in Shanghai China.
|
|
|
|
From the age of five, he learned to play the violin with his parents
|
|
and his brother Honggang Li.
|
|
|
1977
|
He entered the Shanghai Conservatory.
|
|
|
1981
|
As part of an exchange program, he went to study at the San Francisco
|
|
Conservatory in the United States.
|
|
|
1983
|
With his brother Honggang Li and two classmates, he co-founded
|
|
the Shanghai Quartet of which he was the first violinist.
|
|
|
1985
|
A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory, he was an assistant professor
|
|
of violin.
|
|
He left China and joined Northern Illinois University, then the Juilliard School
|
|
in New York, first as a student and then as a professor.
|
|
|
|
He is professor at the Bard College Conservatory of Music, Annandale-on-Hudson,
|
|
New York., .
