|
Wang Lisan 汪立三 ( 1933-2013 ) composer was born on March 24 in Wuhan,
Hubei Province China, into a family of scholars who encouraged his interest
|
|
in calligraphy, folk music, Chinese opera, Chinese painting, and Taoism.

- Studies
|
|
Attracted by music, he enrolled at Gaozi High School and then Shishi High School
|
|
in Chengdu.
|
1948
|
He spent two years at the Sichuan Special Independent Art School and trained
|
|
on the violin, particularly the piano.
|
1950
|
He studied harmony and composition on his own and took piano lessons
|
|
with Peng Weiming.
|
1951
|
He passed the entrance exams to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
|
|
He performed his first composition, Lan Hua Hua, Beautiful Orchid, in concert
|
|
before even taking lessons..
|
1957
|
His piano composition, a Sonatina written during the composition class
|
|
with San Tong, won First Prize in the competition.
|
|
The Music Publishing House decided to publish it, but this was not done
|
|
because of an article denouncing practices in the musical world.
|
|
Labeled as right-handed, Wang Lisan 汪立三 was sent to northern Heilongjiang,
|
|
to be corrected.

- Teacher
|
1963
|
- A professor, he began teaching composition and music theory at the Music
|
|
Department of the Harbin Institute of Art.
|
1972
|
After the Cultural Revolution, he taught again until his retirement in 2002.
|
1979
|
He was a Visiting Professor at the Harbin Academy of Arts and then Professor until 1986.
|
1988
|
He was invited to New York, USA, to participate in the Symposium of Composers
|
|
from both sides of the Strait.
|
|

2002
|
He retired and settled in Shanghai.
|

2013
|
Following a stroke, he died on July 6 in Shanghai, at the age of 80.
