Tan Dun 谭盾 was born in Changsha Hunan Province China.
|

During the Cultural Revolution, he was sent to work in the rice fields
|
| |
of Huangjin. He learned to play traditional Chinese string instruments,
|
| |
then joined the orchestra as a violist.
|
| |
|
|
1977
|
He joined the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
|
| |
He studied Chinese music and rubbed shoulders with many composers
|
| |
who influenced him.
|
| |
|
|
1986
|
He moved to the United States and studied at the Columbia University, |
| |
to prepare a Doctorate. |
