1964

Long Yu  余隆 was born on July 1st into a family of musicians in Shanghai  China.

 

His mother Ding Jiannuo,  is pianist and his father Yu Lixun is choreographer .

   
     -  Education
 

Ding Shande (1911-1995 ), his grandfather, a composer, pianist and music teacher,

 

taught him the piano at a very young age.

   

 

He then entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, continued his piano studies,

 

and began studying orchestral conducting.

1987

After graduating, he went to study in Europe, at the University of the Arts in Berlin,

 

Germany.

   

1992

He was appointed conductor of the Beijing Opera Central Theatre.

1998

He was appointed artistic Director of the Beijing Music Festival

2003

He was appointed Music Director of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra.

 

He toured extensively : in Europe, the United States, Australia, Africa and

 

the Middle East.

   

2005

He conducted the China Philharmonic Orchestra on a tour of North America

 

and Europe.

2008

He performed for Pope Benedict XVI in the Paul VI auditorium at the Vatican in Rome.

2009

He conducted the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra on a tour of the United States.
