Long Yu 余隆 was born on July 1st into a family of musicians in Shanghai China. |
|||
|
His mother Ding Jiannuo, is pianist and his father Yu Lixun is choreographer . |
||||

Ding Shande (1911-1995 ), his grandfather, a composer, pianist and music teacher, |
||||
|
taught him the piano at a very young age. |
||||
|
|
He then entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, continued his piano studies, |
|||
|
and began studying orchestral conducting. |
||||
|
1987 |
After graduating, he went to study in Europe, at the University of the Arts in Berlin, |
|||
|
Germany. |
||||
|
1992 |
He was appointed conductor of the Beijing Opera Central Theatre. |
|||
|
1998 |
He was appointed artistic Director of the Beijing Music Festival |
|||
|
2003 |
He was appointed Music Director of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. |

He toured extensively: in Europe, the United States, Australia, Africaand |

the Middle East. |

2005 |
He conducted the China Philharmonic Orchestra on a tour of North America |

and Europe. |

2008 |
He performed for Pope Benedict XVI in the Paul VI auditorium at the Vatican in Rome. |

He conducted the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra on a tour of the United States. |
