Guo Brothers 郭氏兄弟 ( Guo Yue 郭跃 + Guo Yi 郭艺 )

Born in a family of six children, the two brothers lived in Beijing, in a family
|
|
where music was very present. Their father was a singer, played the erhu
|
|
(Chinese two-string violin) and frequented the musicians of their hutong.
|
|
|
|
Under the name of Guo Brothers 郭氏兄弟 the two brothers :
|
|
- recorded the album Real World: Yuan in which their second sister Xuan
|
|
an opera singer, could be heard singing. (1990)
|
|
- performed in international festivals and concerts.
|
|
- participated in the soundtracks of many films.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Guo Yue 郭跃 the youngest of the family, was born in 1958.
|
|
He played the Chinese flute in the army orchestra of the People's Republic of
|
|
China and then studied the flute at the London School of Music.
|
|
|
|
Composer, interpreter, he made numerous recordings of traditional music, and
|
|
collaborated with many artists : Peter Gabriel, Sinnead O'Connor, Hothouse Flowers;
|
|
|
|
His album Trisan by Real Word with the Japanese drummer Joji Hirota and the
|
|
Irish singer composer Pol Brennan won the American Intrumental Award (1992)
|
|
With Joji Hirota, he also recorded another album: Red Ribbon (1995)
|
|
|
|
He wrote the autobiographical story of the Cultural Revolution as seen by a child :
|
|

He played the mouth organ, made of bamboo..

At the age of 15, he joined the Beijing Film Orchestra.

Three years later, he was a soloist and composed for the soundtracks of many

films.

|
|
When he arrived in the United Kingdom, he joined the WOMAD Festival, toured
|
|
and gave concerts all over the world.
|
|
He contributed to the soundtrack of the film The Last Emperor and played it at
|
|
the premiere in London.
|
|
Representing street artists, he played for the 60th anniversary of the Queen
|
|
at Covent Garden.
