Chang Shana 常沙娜 was born in Lyon, France.

1937

The family returned to China.

|
His father Chang Shuhong ( 1904-1994 ), famous for having devoted 40

|
years of his life to the caves of Dunhuang, encouraged her to practice
|
|
painting, to study and to copy daily the cave paintings.
|
|
|
1948
|
She went to study at the School of Fine Arts in Boston United States.
|
|
|
1950
|
Back in China, she worked as an assistant to architect Li Huiyin ( 1904-1955 )
|
|
at Tsinghua University. ( Architecture Department )
|
|
|
1954
|
She taught at the Academy of Fine Arts and then at the Central Academy
|
|
of Arts and Design.
|
|
|
1952/1958
|
She designed architectural decoration and murals for various National
|
|
construction projects.
|
|
|
1982
|
She was appointed Vice-President of the Central Academy of Crafts.
|
|
|
1983/1998
|
The following year she became the President and remained so for fifteen years.
|
|
|
|
She lives in Beijing China.
