Ah Xian 阿仙 pinyin A Xian

1960
|
Ah Xian 阿仙 , whose real name was Liu Jixian, was born in Beijing, in China.
|
|
|
1980
|
Self-taught painter, he became a professional artist and frequented the avant-garde
|
|
movement: the Stars.
|
|
|
1989
|
He was an artist-in-residence at the Tasmanian School of Art at the University of Tasmania.
|
|
|
1990
|
He fled China and moved to Sydney in Australia.
|
|
|
1997
|
He began his first casts in plaster.
|
|
|
1999
|
Eager to work with porcelain, thanks to a grant from the Council of Australia, he went
|
|
back to China, in Jingdezhen, well known for its fine porcelain. He studied technique
|
|
and design, under the guidance of ceramic Masters.
|
|
He made his first porcelain busts decorated with traditional Chinese designs.
|
|
|
2000
|
First Solo exhibition in Melbourne, RMIT Gallery.
|
|
|
2001
|
He won the National Gallery of Australia’s inaugural National Sculpture prize with
|
|
Human human – lotus, cloisonné figure1
|
|
|
2004
|
He explored bronze with his series : Métaphysica. |
|
|
2007
|
He explored the properties of cast concrete and began creating a series of 36 busts :

Concrete Forest.
|
|
|
2009
|
He won the National Gallery of Victoria Contemporary Art Prize : Clemenger Contemporary
|
|
Art Award.
|
|
|
|
He lives and works in Australia and in China, where he opened a studio, in the Songzhuang
|
|
Artist Communiny Beijing .
