Zou Ya 邹雅 ( 1916-1974 ) was born in April, in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China.

He moved to Shanghai where he made his living by painting. |

1938

He entered the Luxun Academy of Literature and Arts in Yan'an and explored
|
|
the techniques of engraving.
|
|
|
1939
|
He was artistic director of the political propaganda department of the army.

|
|
1940
|
He created a comic strip of 21 woodcuts.
|
|
|
1951
|
He participated in the creation of the People's Fine Arts Publishing House
|
|
and he was appointed Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Director.

|
Influenced by Huang Binhong et Li Keran, he explored landscape paintings,
|
|
in the theoretical research of Chinese painting. |

05.09 he took part in the First National Exhibition of engravings, in Beijing. |

1973

He was named Dean of the Beijing Academy of Painting.

He died accidentally on April 20, during his visit in the coal mine of Yangquan,

to enter the lives of miners..

1980

The National Art Gallery in Beijing organized a major commemorative exhibition

of his woodcuts and The People's Fine Arts Publishing House published his
|
|
paintings.

2014
|
18.04 The Beijing Academy of Arts inaugurated, for the 40th anniversary of his

|
death, an exhibition of a hundred of his works: woodcuts and landscape paintings.
