He entered the Zhejiang Institute of Fine Arts in Hangzhou.

He was the pupil of Pan Tianshou 潘天寿, great master of Chinese painting.

He graduated in traditional Chinese painting.

He joined the Central Institute of Fine Arts, and studied under the aegis of Li Keran 李可染

and Lu Yanshao.
