Wu Changshuo 吴昌硕 ( 1844-1927 ) original name Wu Junqing, was born into a family
|

of scholars, on September 12, in Huzhou, Anji County, in Zhejiang Province China.
|
|

|
He interested at a very young age, in poetry and engraving on seals. |
|
|
1864
|
He moved to Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.
|
|
|
1874
|
During a
stay in Shanghai, the use of color in painting and calligraphy by
Zhao Ziqian
|
|
incited him to paint. Encouraged by Ren Bonian who
advised him to apply
|
|
to painting his knowledge of inscriptions on
bronze and stone, he created an original style.
|
|
|
1896
|
He left his
job as government employee to devote himself to his Art.
|

He was chairman of the Xiling Society of the Seal Art, an academic organisation created

to play a role in the development and research of the Art of seal, painting and calligraphy.
