Li Yuan-Chia  李元佳 ( 1929-1994 ), was born on April 6, in Guangxi Province, in South

China.

1949

He left to study at the Provincial School of Education in Taiwan and then he entered

the workshop of Li Chun-Shan ( 1912-1984 ) whose teaching, influenced by the West,

was not at all conventional.

1955

He was part of the of the first Chinese art movement with an abstract tendency :

the Ton-Fan group, in pinyin  dongfang huahui 东方画会 Orient Movement.

With Chen Tao Ming, Hsia Yan, Ho Kan, Hsiao Ming-Hsien, Hsiao Chin, Ouyang Wen-Yuan,

Wu Hao, they became the eight outlaws, as they were called, because of their revolt with

respect to artistic standards.

1956

The group's first exhibition in Taipei will be followed by many others: in Taipei, but

also in Italy, Spain, Germany and United States.

1963

He moved to Italy, to Bologna and began to develop the cosmic point, that will become

the focus of his work.

1965

He joined the international group of abstract artists  il Punto, composed of Hsiao Chin,

of Antonio Calderara and the Japanese Kengiro Azuma.

1966

He was invited to exhibit at the Signal Gallery and then at the Lisson Gallery in London.

He then placed his works on a carpet of autumn leaves and created installations

of suspended objects through which the public moved.

 1968

He came to live in Banks, North East Cumbria United Kingdom.

1972

He founded the LYC Museum and Art Gallery ( initials of his name ).

1994

He died of cancer in Carlisle, United Kingdom, at the age of 65.
