Huang Binhong 黄宾虹 (1865-1955 ) was born on 27 January into a merchant
|
|
family, in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province China.
|
|
His family was originally from the province of Anhui.
|
|
|
|
After failing several public examinations, he devoted himself to Art.
|
|
He studied with painters and then opened his own school in Anhui.
|
|
|
1909
|
He lived in Shanghai and studied painting and edited literary magazines.
|
|
|
1929
|
He founded the Literary Institute of Shanghai.
|
|
|
1937
|
He moved to Beijing and taught at the Academy of Painting.
|
|
|
1948
|
He was appointed professor at the National Academy of Art, then in various
|
|
schools.
|
|
|
|
Most of his landscapes were inspired by memories of his travels in Guangxi,
|
|
Guangdong and Sichuan provinces.
|
|
|
1953
|
He received the title of Outstanding Painter of the Chinese People.
|
|
|
1955
|
He died on March 25, in Hangzhou, at the age of 90.
|
|
He is buried in the Nanshan cemetery in Hangzhou.
|
|
|
1957
|
His last house was transformed into a memorial museum.orial.
|
|
|
1999
|
A gallery, dedicated to the works bequeathed by the artist to the State, was created
|
|
at the top floor of the West Lake Pavilion, in the heart of the Zhejiang Provincial
|
|
Museum in Hangzhou.
