Gu Yuan ( 1919-1996 ) was born on August 5 in Zhongshan, Guangdong

Province, in China.

He entered the University of Northern Shaanxi, then joined the following year,

the Lu Xun Academy of Arts and studied wood engraving.

|

He graduated. |

|
1942
|
He participated in the National Wood Carving Exhibition in Chongqing.

|
|
1942/1945
|
He created a whole series of works on life in the countryside.

1949/1953
|
He travelled to Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Vietnam and Japan.

1951
|
President Mao and the talk of the farmers won the 2nd Ministry Prize of Culture.

|
He was Director of the Creation Department of the Publishing House of the

Fine Arts of the People, then Professor and Dean of the Academy Fine Arts.

He passed away on August 10, at the age of 77. |
