Fong Chung-Ray was born in Nanyang, Henan Province, China.

He was lieutenant in the Navy. |

He moved to Taiwan and studied Art. |

He graduated in Art, from Political Cadre School, assigned to Navy.

In order to promote Modern Art, he founded Four Seas Artists Association

with another artist Hu Chi-Chung and organized exhibitions ( 1958-1961 ).

He participated in the Sao Paulo Biennale ( 1959 ) and ( 1961 ).

He joined the Fifth Moon groop and participated in their exhibitions (1961-1974 ).

He received the Rockefeller Foundation Award and travelled to Europe and the United States.

He immigrated to the United States and settled in San Francisco.

- He gave up oil painting on canvas for traditional ink painting on paper.
