Fang Chun-Pi 方君璧 ( 1898-1986 ) was born in Fuzhou, Fujian province China.
|
|
She was the 11th child of a rich merchant family.
|
|
|
1912
|
She moved to France, to Paris, with her older sister.
|
|
|
1917
|
She studied Art at the Julian Academy.
|
|
|
1919
|
She entered the Fine Art School in Bordeaux. After graduating, she returned
|
|
the following year, at the E.S.B.A. in Paris, where she was the first Chinese woman
|
|
to be enrolled.
|
|
|
1922
|
She married the poet and politician Zeng Zhongming ( 1896-1939 ) at Lake Annecy.
|
|
|
1924
|
She was the first Chinese student to participate in the Salon de Printemps with La Joueuse
|
|
de flûte, which also covered the Annales Politiques and Literary.
|
|
|
1925
|
Back to China, she taught western painting in the Guangdong University, in Guangzhou. |
|
|
1926/1930
|
She returned to Paris,to study in Albert Besnard's studio and then she travelled to China.
|
|
|
1939
|
Coming to join her husband in Hanoi, she was wounded during the attack on Wang Jingwei
|
|
by agents of the Kuomintang, during which her husband died.
|
|
|
1949/1956
|
At the founding of the People's Republic of China, she moved back to France, in Paris,
|
|
with her three children, and she participated in the Salons.
|
|
|
1956
|
She exhibited in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Bangkok and Singapore.
|
|
|
1957/1966
|
She moved to the United States, to Boston.
|
|
|
1972/1973
|
She travelled to China and made more than one hundred paintings.
|
|
|
1978
|
She donated about forty of her works to the Chinese government.
|
|
|
1986
|
She died in Geneva, Switzerland, at the age of 88.
