Chen Shuren 陈树人 ( 1884-1948 ) was born in Panyu ( Guangzhou ) Guangdong

Province, in China.

He studied painting under under Ju Lian 居廉 ( 1828-1904 )

|
|
|
With the two Gao brothers : Gao Jianfu 高劍父 (1879–1951) and Gao Qifeng 高奇峰
|
|
(1889–1933 ) he was one of the founders of The Lingnan Painting School which wanted
|
|
a renewal of Chinese style painting through Western techniques. ( Perspective and
|
|
colors )
|
|
|
1903
|
They created Guangdong Daily, an undergroud newpaper to promote the revolution
|
|
against the Manchus in China.
|
|
|
1906
|
He went to study drawing and painting at the Tokyo Art Institute in Japan.

1912

Back in China, he taught at the Guangdong High School.
|
|
|
1913 / 1916
|
He followed Sun Yat-Sen in Japan and learned literature at the Rikkyo University in Tokyo.

He graduated in Literature.

Publication of the works of Chen Shuren prefaced by Wang Jingwei.

He was the Director of the Council for Overseas Chinese Affairs and held other functions

in KMT, while continuing to paint birds, flowers, landscapes.

He died in Guangzhou at the age of 64 years.
