Cheng Shifa 程十发 ( 1921-2007 ) was born in June, in Songjiang near Shanghai
|

in Jiangsu Province China.
|
|
|
|
Like his parents, he began by studying traditional medicine. |
|
|
1938
|
He trained at the Shanghai Art College ( traditional Painting department ).
|
|
|
1941
|
He graduated from the Shanghai Art College and taught there. |
|
|
1942
|
First Solo exhibition in Shanghai. |
|
|
1949
|
He made his first comics |
|
|
1952
|
He worked for People-s Art Publishing House and became known for his books |
|
illustrations and picture stories. |
|
|
1956
|
He returned to painting while teaching at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts.
|
|
|
1959
|
He won the 2nd Prize at the International Illustrated Book Exhibition in Leipzig.
|
|
|
2005
|
The Ministry of Culture awarded him the honorary title of People's Artist,
|
|
for his paintings of Yunnan Minorites.
|
|
|
2007
|
He passed away on June 17, at the Shanghai hospital, at the age of 86.
|
|
He donated 80 paintings to his hometown, and 122 works to the Shanghai
|
|
Academy of Art.
|
|
|
|
The Cheng Shifa Museum near the Xilin Temple, in Shanghai, bears his name
|
|
and exhibits 23 works he has donated.
|
|
|
2017
|
A 7000M2 Museum is under construction in the Changning district
|
|
to showcase the 122 works bequeathed to the Shanghai Academy of Art.
