1952

Zhang Wei was born in a rich family in Beijing, China.

 

He grew up in the home of his paternal grandfather, a wealthy businessman

   

1968

During the Cultural Revolution, he was sent to Linqi province, for rehabitation.

   

1970

Back in Beijing, he was refused admission to the Beijing Academy of fine arts,

 

due to his capitalist ancestors. He joined the No Name group, collective of unofficial

 

artists :  Ma Kelu, Zhao Wenliang, Yang Yushu, Shi Zhenyu...

   

1979

He worked as a stage designer at the Beijing Opera.

   

1985

31.12. In response to the ban of the exhibition of the group by the authorities before

 

its opening, Zhang Wei organized another unofficial, at his home in Beijing

   
 

He moved to the United States

1986

He took part to the exhibition  Avant-Garde Chinese Art :
