Mao Yan was born in Xiangtan, Hunan Province, in China. |

Under his father’s influence, he began studying painting, at the very young age.
|

|
1991
|
He graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. |

He began teaching at Nanjing University of the Arts, and taking interest in portraiture. |

He participated in the 1rst Guangzhou Biennial ( 1992 ) and the Shanghai Biennial ( 1996 )
