Zhang Jianjun 张健君 was born in Shanghai, China.

He studied at the Shanghai Academy of Drama.
|

1978
|
Graduated (Fine Arts department), he started working at the Shanghai Art Museum.

| |
An active member of the Shanghai Avant-garde scene, he embarked on abstract

| |
painting, and used various materials (sand, rock, pottery) .
|
|
1983
|
He participated in the experimental painting exhibition at Fudan University, Shanghai.
|

|
|
1986
|
He won the First Prize at the First Exhibition of Young Artists at the Shanghai Art Museum.

|
1986- 1989
|
He was Director of the artistic research department of the Shanghai Art Museum.

1987
|
He was awarded the Asian Cultural Council's Visual Arts Scholarship.

He moved to the United States and turned to Conceptual Art: installation

and Performance.
