David Diao 刁德謙 was born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province China.
|

1949
|
He moved to Hong Kong, with his paternal grandparents.
|
|
|
1955
|
He joined his father, a structural engineer, in United States and studied in Kenyon
|
|
College, in Gambier Ohio. |
|
|
1964
|
He graduated with a ( B.A. ) from Kenyon College.
|
|
|
|
He decided to be an artist in New York, while doing various odd jobs.
|
|
A job in the gallery Sam Kootz then in the gallery Richard Feigen and finally in Guggenheim,
|
|
Museum, allowed him meet artists and the world of Art.
|
|
|
|
His early works are influenced by the New York School of Abstract Painting.
|
|

First exhibition in Paula Cooper Gallery, New York. |

|
1970 / 2000
|
He taught at the Whitney Museum.( Independent Study Program )
|
|
|
|
He focused on form, medium and materials, then his painting got more geometric.
|
|
|
1986
|
He participated in Tableaux abstraits in Villa Arson France.
|
|
|
|
He received a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship in painting ( 1973 ),
|
|
grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation
|
|
( 1990 ) and an Adolph and Esther Gottleib Foundation Grant ( 1993 )
|
|
|
|
He took part to Conceptual Abstraction, Sidney Janis Gallery in New York ( 1991 ),
|
|
exhibition reprised by Hunter College gallery ( 2012 ) to show the evolution of the
|
|
practices of these same artists.
|
|
|
2008
|
For his first exhibition in China, Da Hen Li house, he used his childhood home, as
|
|
subject of his paintings.
|
|
|
|
He lives and works in New York United States. |
