He graduated with a B.F.A. from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.

His Coffin Paint series was inspired by an old Chinese tradition :

from the age of sixty years, every Chinese must buy his coffin and paint it,
|
|
|
each year, with a red lacquer, until his death.
|
