Ma Desheng

1952

Ma Desheng 马德升 was born in Beijing China.

He worked as an industrial draftsman in a factory machine.

He befriended Huang Rui 黄锐, self-taught artist like him.

Both decided to found the group Xingxing, Stars,*

first vanguard artistic movement in China.

1979

He participated in the first unauthorised exhibition on the fence of the park

adjoigning the National museum of Beijing. The exhibition was soon repressed

by the police.

1980

The group was allowed to exhibit at the Huafangzai Pavilion.

1985

He left China for Switzerland.

1986

He settled in Paris.

As a painter, he exhibited in Asia, Europe and the United States.

As a poet, he has published numerous collections of poetry and participated

in international poetry events .

He lives and works in Paris France.

* The main members of the Stars group were : Huang Rui, Wang Keping, Yan Li, Qu Leilei,

Mao Lizi, Bo Yun, Zhong Acheng, Yang Yiping, Ai Weiwei , Li Shuang and Ma Desheng,.
