Hung Liu 刘虹 pinyin Liu Hong

1948

Hung LIu 刘虹 was born on February 17, in Changchun, Jilin province,

in Northeastern China.

She grew up in Beijing.

1968

During the Cultural Revolution, she was sent to the countryside and

she worked in the fields, for four years.

1972

She joined the School of Beijing Normal Revolutionary and studied Art.

1975

After graduating, she began teaching at the School Jing Shan, and during

the week-end, she gave Art lessons, on television.

1979

She joined the C.A.F.A. Beijing, studying the mural painting.

1984

After waiting three years to obtain his passport, she joined the University

of California at San Diego ( UCSD ) to continue his studies, in Visual Arts.

1986

She graduated M.F.A. in Visual Arts from the University of California, San Diego.

1991

She returned to China where she discovered old photographs of Chinese

prostitutes, which she began to use in her paintings..

She became a U.S. citizen.

2001

She began teaching as Professor of Art in Mills College Oakland.

She lives and works in the Unitef States.

2021

On August 7, she passed away at the age of 73.
