Doming Lam  林樂培  (1926-2023), whose real name was Lam Ngok-Pui 林樂培

 

was born on August 5th in Macau.

 

Raised in Macau, he discovered music by singing in choirs.

1947

He moved to Hong Kong and began studying music and the violin.

He went to study music at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.

 

He graduated with a degree in composition.

1960

He joined the University of Southern California to study film music,

 

under the tutelage of Miklós Rozsa (1907–1995), a three-time Academy Award winner.

   
  Hong Kong

1970

He was a full-time composer and collaborated with the Chinese orchestra.

1971

He co-founded the Asian Composers League.

1975

He worked as a producer-director for the radio and television station:TV Rebroadcast.

1986 1994

He was composer-in-residence and taught music at the University of Hong Kong.

1994

He returned to Toronto to enjoy his retirement.

   

2002

He donated 30 manuscripts to the University of Hong Kong Municipal Library.

He died on January 11th at the age of 96. 
 

 

His daughter, Kathy Lam, bequeathed her father's archives to the University
