1963

Xu Yi    徐仪  composer, was born on October 4, in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province  China.

She began playing the erhu at a very young age.

1978

She entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music to study erhu and composition.

1985

After graduating, she began teaching there.

Empty Valley - composition created for the Youth Year Festival - Nanjing won :

 - 2nd Prize at the Chinese Record Awards

 - Prize at the Shanghai Spring Festival. (1986)

She took courses in composition and computer music courses at IRCAM.

before enrolling at the National Conservatory of Music in Paris, under the

direction of composers Gérard Grisey and Ivo Malec.

of Cergy-Pontoise  France

2004-2010

She was a visiting professor of composition at the Chinese conservatories

in Shanghai and in Wuhan.

She gave master classes in France, China, Switzerland, and in the United States.
