Qigang Chen 陈其钢 composer, was born on August 8, in Shanghai China,

in a cultured family, in Xiamen, Fujian Province China.

1964
|
He began studying the clarinet at the Central Conservatory of Music.
|
|
|
During the Cultural Revolution, he had to stop playing.
|
|
|
Sent to Hebei province for re-education, he nevertheless trained

in composition.

1973-1976
|
He was Solo clarinetist and then conductor of the Hangzhou Orchestra..
|
| |
|
|
1977
|
He was one of 27 candidates accepted into the composition class

|
|
at the Beijing Central Conservatory to study with Luo zhongrong.

1983

First in the National Competition, he was authorized to continue his studies

in composition in France.

He was the last student of Olivier Messiaen (1908–1992).
