Ma Xiaohui 马晓辉 was born into a family of academics in China.

At the age of six, she began playing the erhu (two-stringed violin).

She studied at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

After graduating, she became the first violinist in the Shanghai Traditional Orchestra,

then went on to pursue a solo career.
