Chen Ting-shih 陈庭诗 ( 1913-2002 ) was born on April 4, in Changle, Fujian Province
|
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
He grew up in a high-ranking family, and discovered at a very young age, calligraphy,
|
| |
traditional painting, seal engraving and poetry.
|
| |
|
| |
His deafness after falling from a tree did'nt affect his desire to learn.
|
| |
|
|
1937
|
He entered the Shanghai University of Fine Arts.
|
| |
|
|
1938
|
He drew anti-Japanese caricatures under the pseudonym Ears.
|
| |
|
|
1945
|
After the handover, he went to Taiwan and worked as artistic editor of Peace Daily,
|
| |
in Taichung.
|
| |
|
|
1947
|
He returned to China after the February 28 incident and became an editor at Star Min Daily
|
| |
in Fuzhou
|
| |
|
|
1948
|
He worked at the Taiwan Provincial Library in Taipei and was commissioned to make
|
| |
the oil painting: Liu Ming-Chuan Building Railway of Taiwan.
|
| |
|
|
1956
|
Very involved in the Modern Abstract Art Movement, he joined the groups Ton Fan,
|
| |
then Fifth Moon.
|
|
|
|
|
1959
|
He was selected to participate in the São Paulo Biennial Brazil.
|
|
|
|
|
1969
|
His work, Hibernating won the Grand Prize at the Fifth International Biennial.

|
|
1976
|
He was invited to reside in the United States for a year.

On his return, he experimented with acrylic on paper.

He co-founded the group Modern Eyes.

He was invited to the traveling exhibition in France and Spain: Retrospective of sculptures

He died on April 15, at the age of 89.

The Chen Ting-shih Memorial 陈庭诗 was created in his former residence in Taichung
