1952

Fei-Ping Hsu  许斐平 (1952 - 2001), pianist, was born on July 20th on Gulangyu Island

 

in southeast China. His father was a pastor. His mother taught him to play the piano.

 

 

1964

He played the complete Chopin studies and performed with the Shanghai Philharmonic

 

Orchestra.

 

He entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and became its first solo pianist.

   

1979

On a scholarship, he attended the EastmanSchool of Music at the University of

 

Rochester and the following year, he joined the Juilliard School in New York, of

 

Sascha Gorodnitzki..

   

1983

He won the Gold Medal at the Rubinstein International Piano Competition,  followed

 

by other major competitions.

He toured North America, Europe, and the Far East.

   
 

He gave recitals in the most prestigious venues:

 

in New York: at Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Lincoln Center.

 

in Washington: at the Kennedy Center.

   

2001

He died on November 27 in a car accident, during a tour in China.
