1929

François Cheng  程抱一  was born into a family of academics and scholars on August 30,

 

in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, Southeast China.

   
1937 / 1947

After high school in Chongqing, he entered Nanjing University.

   

1949

He went to France with his parents. Passionate about French culture, he decided

 

to settle there and devote himself to the study of French language and literature.

   

1960

He studied at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes ( E.P.H.E. ) while translating poems.

   

1969

He was a lecturer at the University of Paris VII.

   

1971

He was naturalized French.

   

1974

He was a professor at the Institute of Oriental Languages.

   

1977

He wrote his first poetic work in French: L’Écriture poétique chinoise, ed. Le Seuil,

 

reflections on Chinese thought, painting and aesthetics and published an album

 

of calligraphy.

   
 

Through semiology, he made us understand the links that unite Western culture

 

and Chinese culture and showed the contemporaneity of this Art that is calligraphy.

Le Souffle devient signe - ed Iconoclaste.
   
 

First exhibition of his works in a museum.
