Xiong Bingming 熊秉明 ( 1922-2002 ) also known as Hsiung Ping-Ming was born |
|
in Nanjing China. |
|
| His father Xiong Qinglai was a famous mathematician. | |
|
1947 |
He was admitted to the University of Paris to prepare a PhD in philosophy. |
|
|
|
|
1948 |
He entered the School of Fine Arts to study stone sculpture, then the Julian |
|
Academy, in Marcel Gimond's studio. |
|
|
1949 |
He joined l'Académie de la Grande Chaumière, and studied under Ossip Zadkine. |
|
1950 |
Il revient à l'E.N.S.B.A. dans l'atelier de sculpture monumentale d' Auguste Janniot. |
|
1953 |
He married a Swiss woman, with whom he had four children. |
|
After having lived in Switzerland, he returned to France, in Paris. |
|
|
He participated in the Salon de Mai for several years in a row : |

1960 / 1989 |
He taught at the University of Paris until his retirement, while devoting himself |
|
to an abundant artistic creation: Calligraphy, Painting, Sculpture and Writing of |
|
|
numerous essays and Art critics. |

He returned to China and gave lectures and exhibitions. |
|
1983 |
He received the Academic Palms from the Ministry of Education, Paris France. |
|
1998 |
He was commissioned to sculpt a head of Lu Xun (1881-1936) for the Museum |
|
of Literature in Beijing. |
|
|
1999 |
Divorced, he remarried Lu Bing. |
|
2002 |
In March, he created a monumental sculpture for the 100th anniversary of the birth |
|
of the Chinese nation, of Nanjing University.. |
|
|
|
On December 14th, he died in Paris, of a cerebral hemorrhage, at the age of 80. |
|
Sculptor Wang Keping and many personalities accompanied him to Père-Lachaise |
|
|
cemetery in Paris where he was buried. |
|
|
2010 |
Xiong Bingming's wife donated 50 of the artist's works ( 1955-2002 ) to China. |
