Li Yuan-Chia 李元佳 ( 1929-1994 ), was born on April 6, in Guangxi Province, in South
|
|
China.
|
|
|
1949
|
He left to study at the Provincial School of Education in Taiwan and then he entered
|
|
the workshop of Li Chun-Shan ( 1912-1984 ) whose teaching, influenced by the West,
|
|
was not at all conventional.
|
|
|
1955
|
He was part of the of the first Chinese art movement with an abstract tendency :
|
|
the Ton-Fan group, in pinyin dongfang huahui 东方画会 Orient Movement.
|
|
With Chen Tao Ming, Hsia Yan, Ho Kan, Hsiao Ming-Hsien, Hsiao Chin, Ouyang Wen-Yuan,
|
|
Wu Hao, they became the eight outlaws, as they were called, because of their revolt with
|
|
respect to artistic standards.
|
|
|
1956
|
The group's first exhibition in Taipei will be followed by many others: in Taipei, but
|
|
also in Italy, Spain, Germany and United States.
|
|
|
1963
|
He moved to Italy, to Bologna and began to develop the cosmic point, that will become
|
|
the focus of his work.
|
|
|
1965
|
He joined the international group of abstract artists il Punto, composed of Hsiao Chin,
|
|
of Antonio Calderara and the Japanese Kengiro Azuma.
|
|
|
1966
|
He was invited to exhibit at the Signal Gallery and then at the Lisson Gallery in London.
|
|
He then placed his works on a carpet of autumn leaves and created installations
|
|
of suspended objects through which the public moved.
|
|
|
1968
|
He came to live in Banks, North East Cumbria United Kingdom.
|
|
|
1972
|
He founded the LYC Museum and Art Gallery ( initials of his name ).
|
|
|
1994
|
He died of cancer in Carlisle, United Kingdom, at the age of 65.
