1931

Fang Zengxian  方增先 was born in a poor family of peasants,  in Lanxixia,

 

Zhejiang Province  China.

 

 

1934

He went to live with his grandmother.

 

 

1949

He joined the Hangzhou State Academy of Arts.
 

He studied under Ren Bonian, Wang Geyi and Wu Changshuo.

   

1953

After graduating of the East China Branch of The Central Academy

 

of Fine Arts, he continued his studies.

   

1955

He obtained a Master's degree and became a professor at the Zhejiang

 

Academy of Fine Arts.

   

1963

He created his own style and published : How To Draw Wash Portraits.

   

1965

He was acclaimed at the National exhibition of Art.
   

1969

He married the sculptor, Lu Qihui.

   
 

They travelled  four times through Tibet to study the customs.

 

Back in Shanghai, he created many works focused on Tibetan women.

   

1983

He was a painter at the Shanghai Academy of Art

   

1985

He ended his teaching career and became curator of the Shanghai Art Gallery.

   

1986

He was at the origin of the first Biennial.

   

1989

He participated in the 7th National Art Exhibition and won the Silver Medal.

   

1991

He won the Qi Baishi Prize and The Shanghai Art Recognition.

   

2004

The Ministry of Culture awarded him The Prize of Achievements in Pastic Arts.
